Converter in a truck - principles of operation

How does a car converter work?
Sometimes traveling hundreds of kilometers a day by professional drivers is associated with many difficulties. Most often they affect truck drivers. A truck is a special type of vehicle used to transport goods over shorter or longer distances. Driving a truck is a extremely demanding work. However, this does not mean that it is impossible to ensure the driver comfortable conditions inside the vehicle. There are many convenient solutions that significantly affect the comfort of traveling. A perfect example is an accessory called a converter.
The car converter is a small electronic device which function is to change the voltage of 12 V or 24 V from the DC car installation to the AC voltage of 230 V. The 12 V input voltage is used in the electrical installations of passenger cars. On the other hand, the 24 V input voltage is used in trucks and some camper vans. The converter should be connected to the cigarette lighter socket or to the battery. This type of solution allows you to use devices that are powered by 220 V when you do not have access to an electrical outlet.
Types of car converters
There are two types of car converters: modified sine automotive converters and pure sine automotive converters. The first one is used for devices that are slightly less demanding - e.g. laptops, power tools, TV sets or lighting of the cab. However, you should remember that converters of this type have some limitations. The operation of computers without an active PCF filter in the power supply may be slightly disturbed. The power supply may be overheated and different sounds may be emitted by it. In addition, this type of converter may also limit the operation of devices equipped with a commutator motor - e.g. drills or grinders. The equipment then has a problem with the speed controller. In the case of TV sets, the image and sound problems may appear. Another type of converters are pure sine automotive converters. The device is dedicated to devices that require continuous power supply - e.g. induction motors, refrigerators, pumps, air conditioners.
How to choose the perfect car inverter for your truck?
If you choose a converter for a truck, you should follow a few guidelines. First of all, the device must have thermal protection that will protect the equipment against damages. In addition, the car converter should be equipped with a fan that will ensure better cooling and smooth sinusoidal voltage. The device should also have low power consumption in sleep mode. It is worth paying attention to the number of sockets on the converter, as well as available USB ports. The converters should be protected against reverse polarity and short-circuit and should be protected against dust or other elements that may damage the device. The size of the converter is important feature. After putting this device in the cab, it must not disturb driving - e.g. not disturb changing the gear or applying the handbrake.
Professional truck drivers often decide to buy a car converter. In fact, it is a mandatory device in almost every truck cabin, significantly increasing the comfort and convenience of traveling.
