Battery clamps in a truck - functions
The tasks of the battery clamps in the truck
The battery clamps are extremely reliable and durable. Clamps guarantees the correct operation of the battery. Its electrical conductivity depends on these metal elements. The negative effect of the current causes intensive wear of this component. Frequent damage of the clamps means that they must be replaced regularly. Fortunately, the assembly of new clamps is not a difficult, therefore vehicle owners very often decide to replace them by themselves.
Clamps belong to the group of fastening devices, which means that they are exposed to oxidation. Over time, oxidation causes that the force of pressure becomes weak, damage to the metal surface, and leads to permanent damage. Truck battery clamps can be made of lead or brass. Their role in the vehicle is extremely important. These small, metal elements fulfil several functions:
1. enable the correct electrical connection of the battery with the starter, generator, car ground or other types of electricity receivers,
2. allow for quick and efficient installation and removal of batteries from the vehicle,
3. guarantee a reliable electrical contact during vehicle operation, regardless of the conditions,
4. protect against incorrect battery installation or short circuit.
Truck battery terminals have a direct impact on the on-board electrical system. Therefore, their high quality and reliability are of utmost importance. This means that these components should only be purchased from reputable sellers. Proven manufacturers offer accessories only of the highest quality, made of high-quality materials. The battery clamps are then strong and durable, so we have a guarantee of their reliability.
How to mount battery clamps?
In the event of an unexpected failure, replace the battery clamps. However, before we buy the required parts, we must carefully check their type, design, features and application. If there are dirt on the surface of the elements, we should remove them with sandpaper. The battery clamps are divided into a negative (minus) and a positive (plus) clamps.
The installation of the accessory is extremely easy. The minus is connected to ground, so it can be a metal body or a metal part of the engine compartment. The cable from the plus clamp are connected to other types of truck electrical network elements - starter, generator, ignition system, as well as all other electrical current receivers. Therefore, in a situation where, when removing the battery, we first remove the positive clamp, and then when we unscrew the negative clamp and unintentionally touch a metal flat spanner to the engine structure connected to ground and at the same time to the positive clamp the battery we can cause a short circuit in the electrical system. It will lead to burning of wiring and failure of electrical equipment. It is absolutely necessary to remember that failure to comply with the basic safety rules when we work at electrical devices can lead to electric shock and even death. Due to the high level of truck usage, the truck must be equipped with extremely robust components. Most of them are not available in ordinary shops that the driver can meet on the route. Therefore, it is very important that in the event of an unexpected failure and the need to replace a damaged accessory, the driver should have a spare parts in the vehicle. Any longer stops on the route due to the lack of required parts could bring financial losses to the company which owns the vehicle.
